UK schools should reintroduce traditional textbooks to the classroom

Teachers should issue pupils with their own books and work through them from start to finish to give children “a sense of ownership” over key subjects, said Elizabeth Truss.

In a speech, she warned that the country had “fallen out of love with the textbook”, with just one-in-10 using them on a regular basis as they are seen as “regimented and old-fashioned” by teachers who now prefer to pick and choose exercises and issue pupils with photocopied guides

This may indicate a swing back to published material and possibly offer the textbook industry a new opportunity. The digital textbook may not yet be a writeoff
